East Coast Blizzard
I've heard predictions of anywhere between 10 to 20 inches of snow in New York City. With traveling and the holidays, it is bound to be a huge mess. Europe this week has been hit hard by snow with people being left stranded in airports over the holidays. Here it has been very cold since November. We have had very little in the way of precipitation.

First accumulating snow of the season. We have had dry conditions this fall. The international airport in Minneapolis has been closed today with over 17 inches of snow there.
The morning actually began with moderate temperatures -- mid 40's. It started raining about 06:00. Some people who were out and didn't hear the forecast were fooled into wearing light jackets. That had the potential of being a fatal mistake, for within about an hour the temperatures dropped drastically.
I took some pix from I-70 and Blue Ridge
By afternoon, bands of light snow were moving in and the temps had dropped to the lower 20s. There was no mention of accumulation in the forecasts I heard.
The snow started coming in pretty heavy by about 19:30, with some accumluation. The temps had dropped to the teens. The snow moved out of the area by 04:00.
Though there was not much snow, there was drifting with the fierce winds -- up to the mid 40 mph range, and there were some treacherous roads. I think the effects of this storm were badly underrated in the Kansas City Metro area. The temps by morning were about 08 degrees.
Signs of Kansas City Missouri's failing infrastructure were everywhere -- from 169 highway having to be closed due to a water main break in the same area that it broke two years ago, to a water main break at 96th and Wornall that spectacularly turned a house and yard into a winter wonderland as well as to the city of Kansas City yet again this year refusing to clean off any streets leaving drivers to fend for themselves.
